I started riding last spring at 43 years old. I bought a used Yamaha 250 exciter for $500 and rode it for 30 days. Dumped it once and felt real bad. My SO fixed it right up after I dumped it. Little spray paint and it was back to normal. Sold it for $500 and bought my Savage. Have been riding the Savage since. I know someone who bought a new HD and dumped it first time out. Grazed a tree. Of course fixing hers up wasn't as simple. She still thinks buying the HD right off was the best move. I still think buying a small bike and not being so concerned about dumping was the best thing. Depends on how you look at it. She's a hardcore HD and wouldn't be caught dead on anything but. I like all models and would rather dump an inexpensive bike. Then get the bike of choice, whether it be a Savage or a HD. Just thought you might like to know.
